The "mushroom of immortality" — woody, bitter, and not for eating. Grown for wellness use: dried and made into tea, tincture, or extract.

Reishi has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years and is one of the most studied functional mushrooms in the world. The fruiting body is hard, woody, and intensely bitter — inedible as a culinary mushroom. Instead, it's dried and used to make tea, tinctures, or extracts. The bioactive compounds (beta-glucans, triterpenes) are well-documented.
